Botox® Cosmetic
RESTYLANE ™.
What is Botox® Cosmetic and how does it work?
Botox® Cosmetic is derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. The bacterium produces a protein that blocks the release of acetylcholine, which normally transmits messages from the nerves to the muscles to make them contract and move. Botox® Cosmetic relaxes the specific muscles that cause wrinkles. As these muscles relax, the skin that covers them becomes smoother and less wrinkled.
Muscles treated with Botox® Cosmetic usually start to relax within a few days, and reach maximum relaxation within two weeks. The effect is completely reversible and generally lasts for a few months in most instances. Botox® Cosmetic does not affect sensation, and there is no numbness. You can stop treatment whenever you wish and you will gradually return to your original appearance.
It is recommended that to produce optimum results, you have a subsequent treatment before the treated muscles have returned to their old bad habits. Your second treatment results may last longer and if you are pleased with the results and you continue to come in for regular treatments, you may find that the effects last longer with each treatment.
The most popular use of Botox® Cosmetic is to reduce frown and forehead lines. It is also often used to reduce the "crow's feet" lines of the eyes. These lines can often make you look tired, angry, or older than you are. It is also becoming an important therapy for excessive sweating.
Doctors have been using Botox® Cosmetic safely and effectively for over fifteen years in adults and small children, for various medical conditions.
Botox® Cosmetic is now the number one cosmetic treatment performed by Doctors in North America!
Common Questions:
Does Botox® Cosmetic work for all kinds of wrinkles and skin folds?
Not all facial wrinkles are caused by the use of underlying muscles. Deep creases and folds are caused by sun exposure, natural aging, and lifestyle. Many of these deeper wrinkles can be dramatically improved by combination therapy with Botox® Cosmetic and with a filler substance like Restylane.
Does a Rejuvenation Treatment with Botox® Cosmetic hurt? How long does it take?
Treatments with Botox® Cosmetic are gentle and usually only take about 15-20 minutes.
Upon a thorough evaluation by our Physician and using a very fine needle, tiny injections of Botox® Cosmetic are applied directly into the muscles responsible for the signs of aging.
No sedation or local anesthetic is needed, and you can usually go on with your daily activities immediately after your treatment.
Pain or discomfort (if any) is brief and minimal.
What should I do after my Botox® Cosmetic Rejuvenation Treatment?
It is recommended that you do not lie down for 2-3 hours. This is to reduce the chance that the Botox® Cosmetic will spread to other areas, which we don't want to relax. This is unlikely, but if it happens, it would be only a temporary problem that would resolve in a few weeks. In less than 1% of cases there can be a slight drooping of an eyelid, which is often not noticeable, but even when it is, it will usually resolve in a week or two.
What are the side effects of Botox® Cosmetic treatment?
Currently, no long-term side effects, allergic reactions or health hazards related to Botox® Cosmetic have been reported.
Who should NOT use Botox® Cosmetic?
We do not treat pregnant women, women who are breast feeding, or those who are allergic to albumin. You will be required to complete a medical history prior to your treatment.
It is recommended that patients who anticipate having Botox® Cosmetic treatments avoid taking any kind of aspirin or other anti-inflammatory medications before their treatments because these medications can cause patients to bleed and bruise more easily.
Who is a candidate for Botox® Cosmetic injections?
Women and men who do not have significant sun damage but want to eliminate lines and wrinkles on their face and neck. They have realistic expectations of cosmetic procedures and generally are satisfied having a procedure that might have to be repeated every three or four months in order to maintain results. Botox® Cosmetic can also be combined with other cosmetic or skin conditioning treatments to enhance the outcome.
Ideal candidates for Botox® Cosmetic injections are individuals aged from their 20’s (a trend is for younger people to start preventative programs to prolong the visible signs of aging and fatigue) through to their 60’s.

What is this treatment and how does it work?
RESTYLANE ™ is a Swedish produced gel that is injected into the skin in order to add volume to lips and lift up wrinkles and folds. RESTYLANE ™ is a crystal-clear, non-animal, biodegradable gel based on a natural substance called hyaluronic acid.
What is Hyaluronic Acid?
RESTYLANE ™ consists of hyaluronic acid, which is a natural substance already present in your body. It gives volume to the skin, lubricates the joints and gives the eyes their shape. The hylaluronic acid in RESTYLANE ™ is stabilized for long duration and is not of animal or human origin.
Unlike similar products, being that RESTYLANE ™ is not derived from animals, there is no risk of disease being transmitted or allergic reactions being elicited if you are sensitive to common foods, such as beef, chicken and eggs.
Common Questions:
Where is RESTYLANE ™ most commonly used?
Correcting folds and wrinkles of the face, acne scars, nasolabial folds (between the nose, mouth and cheeks), horizontal lines (upper forehead), depressed corners of the mouth ( "marionette lines") and lip enhancement.
Does Rejuvenation Treatment with RESTYLANE ™ hurt? How long does it take?
Upon a thorough consultation by our Physician and using a very fine needle the RESTYLANE ™ is injected into the desired areas. One treatment session takes approximately 30-45 minutes. To make treatments more comfortable, our Physicians may use a topical or local anesthetic to decrease the sensation felt during the treatment.
The result is instantaneous and produces a long-lasting, natural enhancement and is gentle and safe to your skin. No scars or other marks are left on the face. Redness may last 1-2 days following the treatment, occasionally longer in some patients. Swelling in the lips can last for up to one week.
Unlike Collagen, no skin testing is needed before RESTYLANE ™ treatments.
How long does RESTYLANE ™ last?
More frequently used areas, such as lips tend to require a touch-up treatment after about 4 months. Areas that are less frequently used may only require additional treatments after 8 months to maintain the effects. Usually additional treatments require smaller amounts of RESTYLANE ™ then used during your first treatment.
The length of time the effect of a RESTYLANE ™ treatment lasts is very individual and depends on many factors, such as the structure of your skin, lifestyle, age, the degree of perfection demanded and the injection technique of the practitioner
Since 1996, more than a million people have been successfully treated with RESTYLANE ™ in more than 60 countries worldwide.
